Thomas James Hickey, Ph.D.

Bishop in apostolic succession in the Communion of the Christos, a Mystical Christian fellowship. Ordained to the priesthood in the Church of Antioch in 1989, and consecrated bishop in the Free Catholic Church International in 1991. Formerly Dean of Sophia Divinity of School, Church of Antioch, 1988-1990, and Chancellor of the Free Catholic Institute, Free Catholic Church International, 1990-1993, charged with developing and administering seminary curricula.

Yogacharya, Vedic Shankaracharya tradition. Initiated into Transcendental Meditation in 1971, made Teacher of Transcendental Meditation and initiated into TM-Sidhi Program in 1976 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1976. Advanced research at Maharishi European Research University in Vedic studies, 1976-1977, under the direction of Maharishi. This program involved intensive practice of the experiential aspect of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.

Practitioner of Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) since 1984. Recipient of Jyotirgyani honorary degree from the Institute of Applied Astrology and Research of Uttarpara, India, 1985. Developed adaptation of Vedic Astrology to spiritual counseling and transpersonal mentoring.

Taoist sifu in the tradition of Lao Tzu, representing the American Buddhist and Taoist Association under the direction of Taoist Master Hsuan Yuan. Teacher of Lao Tzu Tao Kung, Nei Gong, Qigong, Taiji. Internal Arts Practitioner of Taijiquan, Qigong, Baqua, and Da Cheng (I Quan). Began practice in 1983. Studied most recently with Sifu Li Wang who received his training in Yang and Chen styles of Taijiquan, Hsing I, Baqua and Da Cheng in Beijing and holds a doctorate in religious studies from the University of Iowa.

Cofounder of Interface (1975), Institute of Applied Philosophy (1983), Institute of Wholistic Education (1986), and the New U (1990). Philosophy professor, Maharishi International University, 1979-1983. Received Best Educator and the Most Enlightened Educator awards from the student body in 1982. MIU is unique in being the only accredited institution of higher learning in the United States which bases its curriculum on spiritual practice.

BA (1961), MA 1972), and PhD (1975) in philosophy from Georgetown University. Dissertation: "The Logic of Justification in Ordinary Language: An Investigation of Ludwig Wittgenstein's On Certainty." Specialization in perennial wisdom and comparative spirituality.

MFA (1963) in dramatic and cinematic arts in Program of the Arts, Columbia University, 1963.
